Liverpool and West Ham clash on Wednesday evening with a place in the Carabao Cup semi-finals at stake. Liverpool vs West Ham live stream: How to watch Carabao Cup quarter-final online and for free

Can the Hammers cause a major upset at Anfield?

The Liverpool vs West Ham live stream sees the home side look to respond after a disappointing performance at the weekend and secure a place in the Carabao Cup semi-finals when they welcome the Hammers to Anfield today

There was a sense of disappointment at Anfield on Sunday as Liverpool were held to a 0-0 draw by Manchester United and slipped to second in the EPL table. It was the first time this season that the Reds had failed to win at home.

Jurgen Klopp will be looking for a response and may choose to freshen his line-up with the busy Christmas period ahead. West Ham, on the other hand, will likely field a strong side as they attempt to reach the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup for the first time since 2014 when they lost to eventual winners Manchester City.

The Hammers impressed in the last round when they knocked out high-flying Arsenal and were excellent at the weekend as they beat Wolves 3-0. Summer signing Mohammed Kudus has been in superb form of late and will likely provide a serious goal threat, as will Jarrod Bowen who has 10 goals already this campaign.

West Ham find themselves as close as 270 minutes from the club’s first domestic trophy since 1980, beginning with a trip to Anfield to take on Liverpool in the League Cup quarterfinals on Wednesday.

David Moyes’ side lifted the Europa Conference League trophy last season, but it has been more than 40 years since the Hammers were claimed one of England’s three major trophies — not since Sir Trevor Brooking, now 75 years old, scored the only goal in the 1979-80 FA Cup final against Arsenal. West Ham have already downed the Gunners in the League Cup this season, thanks in large part to stars Mohammed Kudus and Jarrod Bowen, both of whom scored a goal in the round of 16 last month.

Alas, Liverpool have won the League Cup itself nine times, including just two seasons ago, since West Ham’s 1980 triumph, to go with six FA Cups and eight top-flight league titles. That’s 23 domestic trophies during the Hammers’ drought. Jurgen Klopp’s side will need to bounce back from its disappointing 0-0 draw with Manchester United on Sunday, a game they failed to win despite out-shooting their rivals by a jaw-dropping margin of 34-6.

The Reds welcome the Hammers to Anfield having last won the competition the end of the 2021/22 season, where they defeated Chelsea at Wembley on penalties. Jurgen Klopp’s side have so far overcome Leicester and Bournemouth to reach the quarter-finals.

After an early goal for Enzo Maresca’s side in the third round, Liverpool roared back thanks to strikes from Cody Gakpo, Dominik Szoboszlai and Diogo Jota. They then secured a 2-1 win over Bournemouth - Gakpo and Darwin Nunez scoring either side of Justin Kluivert’s effort.

Meanwhile, West Ham squeezed past Lincoln to reach the fourth round, where they were given a tricky draw against Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal. David Moyes’ side turned in a hugely impressive performance to win 3-1 at the London Stadium, with a Ben White own goal and strikes from Mohammed Kudus and Jarrod Bowen securing a comfortable win before a Martin Odegaard consolation.

West Ham have not reached the semi-finals since the 2013/14 campaign and are yet to go all the way in the competition despite two final appearances. It looks like supporters are in line for a cracking game at Anfield.

This quarter-final tie at Anfield is the Hammers' reward for knocking out Arsenal in the last round as they look to reach the final four for the first time in a decade.

David Moyes has enjoyed big nights against the best opposition during his time in charge of West Ham but this is a fixture that Jurgen Klopp has tended to enjoy more.

Liverpool boast a record of 12 wins and a single defeat in their last 14 meetings with West Ham.

Bournemouth and Leicester have already been vanquished by the Merseyside giants in this year's Carabao Cup while West Ham have knocked out Lincoln along with their win at home to Arsenal.
